Climate Change and Urbanization cause an increased number of extreme rain events and an increased amount of paved surface area. As a result, the number of sewage overruns are increasing.
This conflicts with our desire to have a clean, good quality ground- and surface water that supports the Urbanization as well as Biodiversity and lies at the basis of the European legislation around water – lowering the number of sewage overruns to improve the quality of the water.
The existing rainwater infrastructure of pipes and cleaning stations is not sufficient nor future proof. By keeping the rainwater close to where it falls, we can make the urban area much more resilient.
Rainwater runoff from roofs and roads does contain all kinds of pollutants. In order to discharge the rainwater to a recipient, it first needs to be cleaned. In this Tech Talk we will highlight the challenges that we face and a possible solution direction using Rockflow, a stone wool-based water management system by ROCKWOOL.
